The question is a reference to the popular “Finn and Jake” children’s cartoon series.
Huckleberry Finn is a novel written by Mark Twain. The book was published in 1884 and it’s about a young boy named Huckleberry Fin who gets caught up in some pretty crazy adventures with his friend, Jim.
Do you remember when we used to go to comic book conventions? Remember when we could watch the Mystery Art Challenge films online?
For those who aren’t acquainted with the videos (it’s been a while), they featured an artist being challenged to create a recognizable figure using a random item. The character and item were not revealed ahead of time. The artist was videotaped sketching the idea they came up with. It was up to them to be inventive and make the character and the item complement one other. A few of more recent instances may be found here and here.
Aaron Laurich, an artist, was a fan of the videos as well. He contacted me because he wanted me to set a challenge for him. The only difference is that I wasn’t filming. However, we may still appreciate the final product.
The first thing that sprang to mind when Aaron requested to be challenged was “Moon Knight and a Meatball Sandwich.” It’s beyond me how neither had been utilized in a prior episode. You may see that incredible work here.
I had been watching a lot of Adventure Time for his second round, so I came up with Finn and a Frankfurter. What was Aaron’s solution?
Finn the human may be seen in his everyday attire. His arms also seem to be in excellent condition. It’s odd that his frankfurter just has mustard on it. Let’s not go into the debate about whether ketchup is permitted on a hot dog. Aaron did an excellent job capturing Finn’s unique smile.
The only slight problem I thought about afterwards was, would Finn actually eat a hot dog? He has spent some time with Hot Dog Princess and the Hot Dog Knights. Also shortly after Aaron showed me his work, I watched the “Walnuts & Rain” episode from Season 6. Finn mentions hot dogs are disgusting and made up of junk. Maybe this was a hot dog made out of candy from the Candy Kingdom. It just happens to look like an actual hot dog/frankfurter.
In any case, it’s a fantastic work. Aaron’s work may be seen on his Instagram account. His work is also available for purchase via his Etsy shop.
