Sword Art Online is back, and it’s bigger than ever! The popular anime series is now available on Crunchyroll (the best place to watch anime online) and it’s coming to Netflix in less than two months. There are so many questions about the new season, but hopefully this guide will answer them all. How will the new season compare to the first, and why does it matter? What are the genres of the show? What are the actors playing? Will the new season have the same tone as the first? What are the new characters? How do you pronounce them? Many questions! Read on to answer them all.
The past few years have been filled with an unprecedented amount of anime series. Within this era, SAO, Mob Psycho, The Seven Deadly Sins, and many more have cumulatively taken the world by storm. But, which series are the best? It’s tough to rank them all, but I’ve decided to rate them out of ten, based on the first episode of each series. This is the “Sword Art Online Watch Order: The Complete 2021 Guide”
As we round the corner towards Sword Art Online season three and the release of the first movie, I thought it would be beneficial to outline what I believe would be the order of watching the series as it is as of the first movie. For those who don’t know, SAO is an anime series based on a novel series called Sword Art Online , and it follows the story of Kazuto “Kirito” Kirigaya after he is tryed and captured by a mysterious entity known as the “Death Gun” and is trapped in a virtual world known as “Sword Art Online”.
Despite its popularity among anime lovers, Sword Art Online was once reviled. It was a forerunner in the isekai movement. Despite its faults, SAO was a success despite being the first of its type. Despite being panned by western viewers, the series was able to redeem itself. Recent seasons have shown that negativity may overcome even the most severely condemned things.
Believe me when I say that the series will have a huge concept. It will be simple to get engrossed in the series and binge-watch it all at once. If you can get beyond the apparent faults, you’ll be rewarded with an ever-evolving narrative that adapts to your characters and remains new until the conclusion. The fact that the original light book has been adapted into several anime seasons and a theatrical anime film may be confusing to newcomers to the series.

Kazuto Kirigaya (nicknamed “Kirito”) was one of the select few who received the first cargo. He enters Aincrad’s complex and beautiful environment, replete with frightening creatures and medieval weaponry, after logging in. The gamers soon discover they can’t log out, which is a terrible twist of fate. The designer of the game has imprisoned them in the new universe until they finish all 100 levels.
To escape Aincrad, Kirito must now engage with and cooperate with his fellow players. Some are allies, while others are foes, such as Asuna Yuuki, the leader of the party attempting to flee the harsh game. It’s not all fun and games in Sword Art Online. They will perish in real life if they die in Aincrad. Kirito must adapt to his new surroundings and battle for his life. He’s hoping to get out of his virtual misery.
Suguha and Kazuto arrive to the SAO Survivor School on their motorcycle in the first episode. Before leaving for emergency therapy, Kazuto caught up with Rika, Asuna, and Keiko. The females, meanwhile, proceeded to the locker rooms to change into their swimwear.
Kikuoka was waiting for Kazuto when he arrived at his workplace. In addition, he has a counselor waiting for him at the workplace. The “emergency therapy” was a ploy to persuade Kazuto to meet him, according to the latter.
Kikuoka arrived at the table with a stack of food and a recorder after the counselor had gone. This was to talk about Kazuto’s experience with Sword Art Online and to figure out why Kayaba Akihiko did what he did.
In the locker area, the girls compared swimwear styles. Kazuto started by describing how Akihiko revealed that the real aim of Sword Art Online was to establish a setting. This is also why Kirito left Klein to become a single player in Town of Beginnings.
Sword Art Online II (Season 2)
Kazuto Kirigaya has started to reintegrate into society a year after leaving Sword Art Online. But his tranquility is short-lived when a fresh event occurs in Gun Gale Online. Death Gun, a player in the game, seems to be killing individuals in the real world by shooting them in the game.
Kazuto adopts the name of Kirito and signs on to Gun Gale Online after being asked by authorities to assist with the murder investigation. He is determined to apprehend the assailant.
Kirito is quickly drawn into Sinon’s pursuit of Death Gun, a talented sharpshooter with a troubled history. Sinon soon drags her along in his quest of Death Gun. They join the Bullet of Bullets competition together, where their target will undoubtedly emerge.
Kirito and Sinon must outrun Death Gun in order to prevent him from taking another life. However, things do not always proceed as planned, since old scars may obstruct their development. Kirito is risking his life once again in a high-stakes virtual game.
Alternative to Sword Art Online: Gun Gale Online
The infamous “Pink Devil” is a tiny child-sized murderer dressed in desert pink. Who is it that chases out other Gun Gale Online players in the virtual reality game Gun Gale Online? However, in real life, this player killer isn’t exactly what you’d anticipate.
Karen Kohiruimaki, a modest Tokyo University student, comes out in striking contrast to her gaming character. To her chagrin, she is more than everyone else. Karen is a towering figure who thinks she is better than everyone else. Her concern over her height causes her to seek solace in the virtual world.
She started playing game after game in the hopes of becoming a charming, tiny character. Gun Gale Online, on the other hand, ultimately provides her with the life she wants. She is delighted with her new look and devotes all of her energies to LLENN in order to cement her legendary status as a player killer.
LLENN is unable to prevent one of her targets from escaping her grasp, and she encounters Pitohui, an unusual and talented lady. Pitohui soon befriended Karen and insisted on LLENN participating in Squad Jam. This is a battle royale game in which teams compete against one another until only one team survives. LLENN is thrown into a tough competition and must use all of her wits and will to triumph.
Ordinal Scale is an online movie by S. Art.
In 2026, the Augma, a new alternative to the AmuSphere system, is made available to the general public. Instead of utilizing FullDive, it presents a layer of reality on top of the player’s awareness. The most popular combat-based game is Ordinal Scale. It is a game in which a player’s skills are rated using ordinal numbers.
Asuna and Lisbeth urge Kirito to play OS after learning that Aincrad bosses have emerged. At Akihabara, Asuna and Klein join Kirito in a boss fight against Kagachi, the Samurai Lord. Yuna, the AI idol singer, comes and sings, giving players boost benefits.
Kirito’s inability to do anything is due to her lack of agility and real-world physical strength. Before Asuna administers the deadly blow, Eiji, the number two rated player, says to her, “Switch.” She identifies this as a SAO gaming mechanism.
The following night, Asuna joined Klein and his gang at Yoyogi Park for another boss battle. Asuna was unaware that Eiji had wounded him the night before while they were waiting for their last member. Asuna abandons Klein’s guild to take on the Storm Griffin. Yuna is in command once again. The unexpected arrival of Zanghi, the Flame Caller, astounded Klein and his guild.
Eiji unexpectedly backs him up in his battle against the Storm Griffin. Zanghi assaults Klein and his whole guild, defeating them all bodily with superior reflexes and apparently superhuman power. When Asuna goes home to the location where she left Klein and his guild, they vanish.
The following morning, Kirito is training with OS at Yoyogi Park when a female he doesn’t recognize arrives, wearing in a white hood and mouthing something before leaving. Kirito is taken aback when Asuna appears, and he is puzzled.
Eiji may have previously been a member of the Knights of the Blood Oath, according to Asuna. Yui, on the other hand, believes that the Aincrad bosses’ spawning places correspond to the SAO maps. Kirito realizes Klein is missing and sets out to locate him.
Yuna and Eiji have returned. At the same moment, Agil contacts Kirito and tells him that Klein has a fractured arm and is in the hospital. Kirito becomes panicked and goes to assist Asuna and their companions. During the boss fight, a second monster, Dorz’l the Chaos Drake, comes out of nowhere and concentrates on Silica.
By pushing Silica into the line of a fatal boss strike, Eiji prevents her from escaping. Asuna is vanquished, but she is safe. An OS drone swiftly captures an orange ball that emerges from Asuna. Asuna has memory problems and is brought to the hospital for evaluation.
Asuna learns that the Augma device scans her brain for SAO memories, and that her memory loss may increase as a result. Kirito grows more eager to uncover the secret as Asuna’s health worsens. Kirito pays Klein a visit in the hospital and verifies Klein’s loss of SAO memories.
Sword Art Online: Alicization (Season 3, Part 1)
Kirigaya Kazuto was a young kid who had been playing Sword Art Online from the beta stage. The game’s developer, Kayaba Akihiko, intends the MMORPG to be a real-life survival game. All of the participants were taken aback when they learned that they would be in serious trouble. When a player’s HP is depleted, so is their physical body.
Kayaba then said that in order to be free, all SAO gamers have to finish all 100 floors. Kirito pretended to be a BETA tester. Because he knew enough about the game and was well-versed in it. Kirito meets swordsman Asuna. He later falls in love with Asuna and adopts an AI named Yui.
Asuna was subsequently revealed to be a member of the Knights of the Blood, “Sword Art Online’s” top guild. The lovers came upon Kayaba Akihiko, the leader of the Knights of the Blood. He dares Kirito to a one-on-one battle to put a stop to it all. Kirito is severely injured, but Asuna saves him by giving her life for him.
When all of the survivors returned to the real world, Sword Art Online came to an end. Asuna, on the other hand, was discovered in a coma. Asuna vanished and was later discovered at Alfheim Online. The fairies race to fly as far as they can to the World Tree.

After that, Yui and Kirito set out to rescue Asuna and find the World Tree.
Kirito attempts to rape Asuna in front of Suguo as soon as they meet. Suguo’s greater account then rendered Kirito immobile. Kayaba Akihiko told Kirito that he had provided his account, which was more than Sugou’s. Kirito was able to summon the Excalibur sword as a result of this incident, which he utilized in his attempt to slay Sugou.
Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of the Underworld (Season 3, Part 2)
The ALO event happened months after the ALO incident. Kikuoka Seijirou contacted Kirigaya once again, this time requesting his assistance in a Gun Gale Online game. While most of the game’s characters use firearms, Kirito utilized both a sword and a rifle. He is cautioned to be cautious of Death Gun, which kills other players in the game. The real-life victims, who were also shot in the game, were subsequently discovered dead.
Kirito then goes to GGO, where he meets Sinon, a well-known sharpshooter vying for the Bullet of Bullets tournament. Because Sinon’s targets were the top players in the game, it was thought that the incident exposed Death Gun’s real identity.
Sinon and Kirito were triumphant after fighting Death Gun. After discovering that Death Gun was Sinon’s buddy and was attempting to rape Kirito in the real world, Sinon was arrested.
Kirito enters another game when his endeavor with Sinon at Gun Gale Online ends, as asked by Kikuoka Sijirou, a member of the VR criminal section. Seihirou was also in charge of Kirito’s admission to GGO.
